Child and Youth Program

Supporting Children and Youth through Safety, Skills, and Community Engagement
Our Child and Youth Programs help ACB youth by promoting community safety, creating supportive spaces,
and teaching valuable skills. We aim to improve well-being, encourage civic involvement, and offer places where young people can take part in positive activities.

How We Address Key Priorities

We enhance community safety by providing secure, supportive spaces and positive role models for ACB youth. Civic engagement forms an essential part of the programme through active participation in workshops and activities that encourage leadership. Mental health holds significant importance. We prioritise well-being by offering supportive spaces and mental health resources that help reduce stress and improve overall emotional health. Skills development is a key focus. Youth take part in hands-on activities that help them build practical skills, especially in STEM. We support access to educational resources that help youth pursue further learning and address barriers to advancement. We set up youth-friendly spaces in community centres that are easy to reach. These spaces are welcoming and engaging for everyone who takes part.
Target Group
The program supports seniors who face economic and social challenges due to racial bias and systemic barriers. It welcomes men and women, LGBTQ+ seniors, seniors with disabilities, Indigenous peoples, and individuals with low incomes.
Programme Objectives
The project correlates with the New Horizons for Seniors Programme in three ways. The first objective is to encourage and promote seniors’ volunteerism and cross-generational volunteerism. Second, the project will assist social participation and inclusion that lessen harm and isolation of seniors. And lastly, expanding awareness of elder and financial abuse.

We also aim to develop educational material to prevent fraudulent financial practices and scams targeting seniors. Through intergenerational volunteer opportunities, seniors take on mentorship and advisory roles, sharing skills and experiences with younger participants.

There are active roles for seniors who influence the programme and its decisions, enabling activities to truly reflect their actual lived experience and the needs of their community. Honoraria are given to Volunteers in the spirit of recognising their contributions while working together on the committee that fosters dialogue, equity, and belonging among participants from varying backgrounds.

Linguistic Inclusion
The Seniors Program helps English and French-speaking minority communities in Canada. All communication materials, registration forms, and program details are offered in both languages. Translation is available for all in-person and online activities to make everyone feel included. A senior volunteer from the Francophone community will lead translation and cultural outreach efforts to better serve participants from Caribbean, African, and other minority language backgrounds.
