Program Planning and Design Design inclusive, culturally relevant, and age-appropriate recreational and leisure activities for youth aged 12–29, including sports, arts, outdoor events, and wellness sessions.
Integrate youth feedback into the program design through consultations, surveys, and focus groups to ensure meaningful participation.
Ensure all programming aligns with positive youth development frameworks and promotes physical, social, and emotional well-being.
Event and Activity Coordination Organize and implement daily and weekly activity schedules, special events, and workshops that enhance youth engagement, skill-building, and social inclusion.
Book venues, liaise with partners, confirm facilitators, and ensure all necessary equipment and materials are available.
Manage logistics, set-up, and take-down of activities and coordinate volunteers and peer mentors.
Youth Engagement and Outreach Promote the program through social media, flyers, and community outreach to increase youth participation, particularly from marginalized communities.
Build relationships with youth participants, encouraging consistent attendance, leadership, and peer support.
Create a welcoming and inclusive environment where youth feel safe, respected, and valued.
Health, Safety, and Accessibility Oversight Monitor all recreational activities to ensure compliance with safety protocols, emergency procedures, and public health guidelines.
Assess and remove barriers to participation, including physical, linguistic, and cultural barriers, to ensure accessibility for all youth.
Maintain up-to-date first aid knowledge and respond to incidents as needed.
Administrative and Reporting Duties Maintain attendance records, incident reports, program evaluations, and other documentation as required by the Canada Summer Jobs program.
Prepare program summaries, weekly updates, and end-of-program evaluations to support accountability and impact reporting.
Support the development of newsletters, social media updates, and digital content that showcase youth achievements and program highlights.
Mentorship and Leadership Development Support youth in taking on leadership roles within the program, including leading activities, facilitating discussions, and co-designing future initiatives.
Encourage the development of transferable skills such as teamwork, communication, time management, and conflict resolution.
Provide mentorship to participants exploring career pathways in recreation, community development, or youth work.
